SOUND :
Sound is a form of energy that is produced when objects vibrate. These vibrations travel through a medium like air, water, or solid in the form of waves, and when they reach our ears, we are able to hear them.
Characteristics of sound:
-
Amplitude – The height of the vibration (wave). Greater amplitude = louder sound.
-
Frequency – Number of vibrations per second. Higher frequency = higher pitch.
-
Time Period – The time taken to complete one vibration. (It is the opposite of frequency: Time period = 1/Frequency).
-
Pitch – Tells us if the sound is shrill (high pitch) or deep (low pitch). Depends on frequency.
-
Quality (Timbre) – The property of sound that makes it possible to distinguish between two sounds even if they have the same loudness and pitch (like different musical instruments or voices).
