They open into the coelom through nephridiopores. Septal nephridia are involved in the excretion of metabolic wastes and regulation of fluid balance within each segment. Integumentary Nephridia: These nephridia are located within the body wall (integument) of the earthworm, particularly in the anterior segments. They open directly to the exterior through pores in the body wall. Integumentary nephridia are primarily involved in removing excess water and maintaining osmotic balance in the earthworm's body. read less
