Minerals are the building blocks of rocks. They can be found in rocks, soil, and natural water bodies. Minerals have specific physical properties like hardness, luster, color, cleavage, and density. Examples of minerals include quartz, feldspar, calcite, and hematite. Ore: Ore refers to a naturally occurring rock or mineral from which a valuable or useful substance, usually a metal, can be extracted profitably. Ores are economically significant because they contain high concentrations of valuable metals or minerals. Not all minerals are ores, but all ores are composed of minerals. Ores are typically formed through geological processes such as hydrothermal activity, weathering, or sedimentation. The extraction of metals from ores involves various processes like mining, beneficiation, and smelting. Examples of ores include iron ore (hematite and magnetite), copper ore (chalcopyrite), and gold ore (native gold or gold nuggets). In summary, while both minerals and ores are natural substances found in the Earth's crust, minerals are the basic building blocks with defined chemical compositions and structures, whereas ores are rocks or minerals from which valuable metals or minerals can be extracted profitably. read less
