What is Motion?

Change of position concerning time is called a motion. e.g. moving car, moving blades of a fan and many more.

- The motion also depends on the frame of reference

- Now what is the structure of reference

- Suppose two persons are moving in a car, so according to them both are at rest sitting in a car only, and a car is moving.

- But when any other person watching from outside for him both car, as well as persons, are in motion.

- So this means the frame of reference is that the way it has been observed.

Types of Motion:

- Rectilinear motion

- Circular motion

- Rectilinear motion- motion in a straight line

- Circular motion is the motion in a circular path

How is motion observed

Motion can be observed in 2 ways:

- Distance

- Displacement

The distance can be defined as a total distance started from the initial point to the final point. Movement can be defined as the shortest distance travelled from the initial to last point.

E.g. of distance suppose a boy starts its journey from school which is named as point A and then travel to home which is named as a point B then moves to the church named as a point C.

Now distance can be measured as: AB+ BC=distance; AC =Displacement.

Now distance is the total distance travelled by the child, ie from school to home and then to church.

But displacement says the shortest distance, so school is the initial point and church is the final point
