Both serve the same purpose, ie imparting knowledge to students. The mode is different, and both are potentially good in many ways, both have their downsides as well.
I am a Home tutor and love to teach my students through direct. This way, I get quick feedback from my students. I have full control of my students when I am teaching. It makes my job easier. I understand their moods quickly and adapt to myself while I teach. I work on a tight schedule. The downside is I have to travel to their place and conduct classes.
As long as the teacher is good, both are good; online is a comfort for the tutors that they can take tuition from their place, avoiding unnecessary travel.
If both student and teacher are well equipped to communicate online with no difficulty, you can opt for online. Sometimes you can take classes till late at night or early morning hours also if both student and tutor are ok with that which you usually cannot do in home tuition. Online has its downside as well. You should have a non-disconnecting internet connection, good power backups from both ends. Big companies are reliable in both above, they appoint tutors only after rigorous background screening and allow them to take the class only if they pass the subject test.
There are some excellent freelance experienced tutors available in the market which you find through many providers. They are making their way to get into the online mode as they can save their precious time.

Online Teaching is another area where tutors can showcase their talents. It is quite different from one-one direct class or group classes that we used to conduct. You need to master specific skills like the following.
a. Good working knowledge of computers
b. Video conferencing skills is a request though not mandatory (skype, google hangout etc., )
Hardware requirements:
PC or laptop with a fast internet connection ( min 20-40 Mbps )
Whiteboard software or online whiteboards is reqd, and Digital Pen tablets or Tablet PCs for writing.
Webcam with right mic and headphone is required. ( you can disable a webcam if you communicate only through audio ).

Both serve the same purpose, ie imparting knowledge to students. The mode is different, and both are potentially good in many ways, both have their downsides as well.
I am a Home tutor and love to teach my students through direct. This way, I get quick feedback from my students. I have full control of my students when I am teaching. It makes my job easier. I understand their moods quickly and adapt to myself while I teach. I work on a tight schedule. The downside is I have to travel to their place and conduct classes.
As long as the teacher is good, both are good; online is a comfort for the tutors that they can take tuition from their place, avoiding unnecessary travel.
If both student and teacher are well equipped to communicate online with no difficulty, you can opt for online. Sometimes you can take classes till late at night or early morning hours also if both student and tutor are ok with that which you usually cannot do in home tuition. Online has its downside as well. You should have a non-disconnecting internet connection, good power backups from both ends. Big companies are reliable in both above, they appoint tutors only after rigorous background screening and allow them to take the class only if they pass the subject test.
There are some excellent freelance experienced tutors available in the market which you find through many providers. They are making their way to get into the online mode as they can save their precious time.

Online Teaching is another area where tutors can showcase their talents. It is quite different from one-one direct class or group classes that we used to conduct. You need to master specific skills like the following.
a. Good working knowledge of computers
b. Video conferencing skills is a request though not mandatory (skype, google hangout etc., )
Hardware requirements:
PC or laptop with a fast internet connection ( min 20-40 Mbps )
Whiteboard software or online whiteboards is reqd, and Digital Pen tablets or Tablet PCs for writing.
Webcam with right mic and headphone is required. ( you can disable a webcam if you communicate only through audio ).
