I hold an undergraduate degree in Biotechnology from SRM University and a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from UB. I currently hold a second master’s degree in Pathology.
My thesis Titled, “Role of FAK and Small G-protein Signaling in Vascular Smooth Muscle Spheroid Formation” was submitted towards my Feb2020 graduation. I recently submitted my first author manuscript titled “Machine learning approach reveals heterogeneous responses to FAK and RhoGTPases inhibition on smooth muscle spheroid formation” for preprint). I also had the opportunity for an oral presentation at the BMES, 2019 for my current research project. As a graduate student in the Pathology department at UB, I work on developing 2D and 3D human and mouse smooth muscle cell and endothelial cell cultures to study vascular disease at the cellular and molecular levels and explore the mechanobiology aspects of vascular diseases. This is accomplished by performing Immunological assays, quantitative PCR and Atomic Force Microscopy techniques. In addition to my research, I also train and mentor three undergraduate students and two graduate students in the laboratory with their independent research projects. I’ve also had hands-on experience working with breast cancer and epithelial cells as a part of other minor projects.
As an undergraduate at SRM, my research focused on synthesizing and testing Wollastonite (Calcium silicate) on osteoblasts and bone specific microRNA. The purpose of this project was to develop implantable biomaterials in order to treat critical sized bone defects. The research work was published as a research article titled “Scaffolds containing chitosan/carboxymethyl cellulose/mesoporous wollastonite for bone tissue engineering” and a review article title “Biomaterials mediated microRNA delivery for bone tissue engineering” was published in 2015.
As a biomedical engineering student at UB, I designed Polyurethane hydrogel spheres for targeted drug delivery. Dynamic Light Scattering, Zeta potential and Rheology were used to characterize these hydrogel spheres.
