About the Course

Bharatanatyam is the most widely known and exalted of the classical Indian dance forms. It has existed in its present form for about 70 years, but its roots can be traced back several hundreds of years.

At Sri Silambam, we teach not only Bharatanatyam, but also Marthagraham techniques that make the body flexible for the art form. It requires the performer to understand and appreciate music to be able to express the bhava by assimilating the mood of the composer and enjoy the dance form. We help students appreciate and understand classical music too, making them realize that music and dance are inseparable entities. Talam or Rhythm as it is called is another vital component in classical dance and we indulge students to learn Nattuvangam too to improve their rhythmic sense.

Overall this course would help students kindle their interest, imagination and enthusiasm towards the classical art form; making them not just great performers but also help them carry this great legacy to the coming generations. We welcome you all part of this course.
