Aithihya Ashok Kumar is a Chennai-based animation director and filmmaker whose practice
bridges the sensibilities of hand-painted frame-by-frame animation with the precision and
dynamism of contemporary motion graphics. Rooted in traditional animation techniques
while embracing digital possibilities.
Her filmmaking spans the entire spectrum of animation production - writing, storyboarding,
animatics, art direction, character design, animation, and compositing. While adept across all
stages of production, her core strength lies in pre-production—particularly in developing
visual screenplays, conceptual frameworks, and the aesthetic language of 2D animation
projects. Over the past decade, she has directed films for production houses, advertising
agencies, and independent filmmakers, alongside creating illustrations and written content for
children’s publications and theatrical productions.
Her artistic practice engages deeply with the quotidian—exploring themes of people,
language, memory, and place across both urban and rural landscapes. Through seemingly
simple moments, such as a woman waiting at a bus stop, she crafts layered visual narratives
