Sure, of course You must fully understand all of CCNA topics for going to CCNP. 30 to 40 percent of CCNP materials comes from CCNA.

Its actually mandatory you can not appear for CCNP Exam if you have not passed CCNA Exam although if you want you can go directly for CCIE Exam
