Why does a switch statement work faster than an if-else statement in the C language?

each case within a switch statement does not rely on earlier cases, the compiler is able to re-order the testing in such a way as to provide the fastest execution

If implemented with IF-statements you would have a check, a jump to the next clause, a check, a jump to the next clause and so on. With switch the JVM loads the value to compare and iterates through the value table to find a match, which is faster in most cases. read less

switch case is more faster than if-else-if because, the execution control directly goes to the true case with out checking any false conditions.
