What it sounds like is that you are seeking the index of the lowest bound of the vector. Unfortunately you are also assuming that the iterator is implemented in terms of an index. That is a poor assumption: the implementation of the iterator is opaque. It could be an index, a pointer, or something even more obscure like a pair containing a pointer and offset. The only operations guaranteed by an iterator is that it can be pre-incremented and dereferenced.(Other categories of iterator offer more operations, but you have to use type analysis to verify their availability.) The value of an iterator is undefined. read less
