it is not necessary to learn C and C++, but if you want to make your are career in computer then learn C & C++ because these are basic computer language.

It is like that in most of the engineering colleges. But when you start the language, I advise you to learn and understand it by heart. If you are aiming to go into the development/Coding field, these 2 languages are best to start with. Only way to learn a language is to implement what you have learnt.
