In c language constant is used for fixing a permanent value in the program suppose like pi fix value is 3.14 , so u can declare const pi=3.14 .it will remain 3.14 throughout the program.

Characters constant are like 'a', '#', any single thing written in ' ' is a character constant. You can use anywhere in your program like if you want the response from user in yes or no. you can ask him to enter 'y' or 'n' and then compare it.
