I think I understand what a pointer is, but what I donâ??t get is, when to use a pointer and when to use just the normal value?

Pointers are mostly used when you want to play around with the address / location of a data in your system. So basically pointers are best suited for optimization problems where you inturn reuse the data that is already stored, rather storing the same in different locations and causing a memory load.
