How do I learn microcontroller programming since it is not completely C programming?

First you can learn the instruction set of 8051 and also u have to learn the different formats of timers,interrupts

first of all you have learn Architecture of a particular microcontroller and then look into the instruction sets. download any virtual assembler from internet and practice it on.. later write a very small programs and verify or trace your program step by step.
