You require some exposure to math that doesnot mean that you need to have degree in Math. you should be able to understand how some of these algorithms works will help you better appreciate it rather than just doing it mechanically.
By the way not all data science concepts require complex matematical formuals .. there are libraries or packages which will do the job for you.. however you need to be clear about concepts behind it

Industry is looking for professional who have got right talent so it does not matter how you have learned it. As long as you can demonstrate your skill to potential role.
At the same time just having certification without knowing the subject is useless. If you already have experience in IT, then you can learn it using plenty of material available
