Level 1 System Administrators, people who want to build and excel in Open Source Operating Systems. This course will be good for those also who want to take their carrier shift from Windows to Linux.
Prerequisite if any?
Basics in computers can do the job if someone wants to understand the concepts. As the course will be in details and will start the things from very basics, there is no need to have any prior knowledge of UNIX/LINUX.
Course Contents
• Background and history of Linux. What makes Linux best in its class, what are the other flavors available on Linux.
• How Linux is different from Other Operating System.
• Linux Operating System Basic Architecture and how it works.
• Working with Linux Gnome Desktop.
• Configure Local Services ( date, time etc. through GUI and command line)
• About Shell and terminal windows. (Running commands, connecting and expending commands, environment variables etc.)
• Understanding files system basic commands and managing them. ( listing, moving, copying and removing files )
• Installation of Linux (Custom and automatic installation)
• Working with text files. (Different editors like vi, nano, emacs etc.), Locating files with find commands, searching for patterns in file with grep.
• Managing User accounts. ( This will be all inclusive from creating, modifying, and deleting user accounts. How commands works in background, Group management, Access Control List, SUID,SGID and Sticky bit).
• Managing disks and filesystems. ( Normal , LVM {extension,reduction and migration} and encrypted partitions )
• Mounting a filesystem and managing fstab entries.
• Swap management. ( Swap file and swap addition into linux)
• System Recourse Management. ( cpu, process, memory, disk etc. )
• Getting and managing system software’s (understanding rpm in detail, managing rpm with the help of YUM server in detail.)
• Job Scheduling in linux using cron. ( Includes real time practices and examples)
• Managing remote access with Secure Shell Service (SSH) in details.
• Linux Boot process, different run levels , applying password at grub level and root password recovery technique.
• Deploy a file sharing service within linux ( ftp, scp, and rsync etc ) and with windows environment ( Samba Server configuration) .
• Understanding system logging and system logs to identify the issues.
• Network Administration ( NIC Management, Bonding )
• Linux Service Management ( Starting and stopping services )
• Network File Sharing ( NFS Server in details )
• Understanding basic on different Linux security features (tcp wrappers, sudo management, Pluggable authentication module , Selinux , IPTABLES etc)
• Troubleshooting. (This will include some practical and live examples in terms of issues like filesystem issues, booting issues, and how to identify and act in case of Recourse bottlenecks).
