“The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows” - Irrespective of their times, the successful individuals are the one who participate in changes, educate themselves, contribute to the society and lead a good life. So the purpose of education is to create lifelong learners. Participation comes from interest and motivation, which address most of the challenges that we face today in classrooms.
My philosophy of teaching is to generate interest in studies, focusing on 21st C Skills: Creativity, Critical thinking, Collaboration and Communication. By so, I aim to develop lifelong learners who will enjoy the course and achieve their full potential.
I create interest in studies by connecting concepts to life centred round the student as much as possible. For instance many concepts of physics can be linked to a student’s bicycle or a bike – kinematics, dynamics, friction, torque, momentum, collision, suspension, mirror, thermodynamics, gas laws, energy, electricity, circuits, elasticity, sound and so on. A student of mine came up with an excellent idea to investigate projectile motion using a water hose that he used to wash his bike! So thinking physics in life around them is a big motivation to learn and apply their knowledge.
