I've been teaching painting since 2009, working with students of all age groups and levels — from complete beginners to advanced painters refining their technique. I hold a degree in Digital Media and a certification in Fine Art, and I'm the founder of BKM Art Classes (BKM Artopia), where I built a complete painting curriculum grounded in the elements and principles of art and design. My core specialty is watercolour, with a strong focus on watercolour impressionism — capturing light, mood, and atmosphere rather than rigid photographic detail. I teach both additive technique (layering and glazing to build depth, saturation, and form) and subtractive technique (lifting, blotting, and masking to create highlights, texture, and the kind of controlled unpredictability that makes watercolour so expressive). My teaching follows a shape-first foundation even in painting — training students to see a composition as an arrangement of basic shapes and value relationships before worrying about detail — paired with a learning cycle of observation, experimentation, practice, and implementation. From there I build in colour theory and mixing, brushwork and control, composition, perspective, and light and shadow, so students understand not just how to apply paint, but why a painting works the way it does. I use relatable, everyday analogies to make technical ideas land intuitively — comparing shadow direction to a clock face, for instance — and I balance encouragement with honest, specific feedback so students see real, visible progress with every piece they paint, not just theory. Alongside teaching, I bring 12+ years of experience as a Creative Director across fine arts and digital media, which keeps my own painting practice current and grounded in real, professional standards.

My teaching centers on a shape-first method: instead of trying to draw a complex object directly, students learn to break it down into basic shapes — a triangle, rectangle, or circle — arranged to create the illusion of the real thing. This single shift makes even intimidating subjects feel achievable from the very first lesson. I build skills progressively through a cycle of observation, experimentation, practice, and implementation — training the eye to really see proportion, form, and structure before technique is layered on top. From there, I teach perspective (how shapes shift and shrink to create depth) and light and shadow (how shading turns a flat shape into something that reads as three-dimensional). I hold a degree in Digital Media and a certification in Fine Art, and I founded BKM Art Classes (BKM Artopia), where I built a complete curriculum around the elements and principles of art and design, including a full teaching deck and structured lesson notes. For advanced and aspiring students, my focus shifts from general enjoyment to rigorous fundamentals: composition, proportion, form, value, perspective (one-point, two-point, and beyond), and observational drawing techniques that train the eye to see accurately rather than assume. I use my shape-first method as a foundation even at advanced levels, because breaking complex forms into underlying shapes is exactly the skill that separates confident, structurally sound work from guesswork — something art college portfolios and animation/design fundamentals both demand. My teaching follows a deliberate cycle: observation, experimentation, practice, and implementation, so students don't just absorb theory, they apply it immediately through real studies — still life, figure and gesture drawing, perspective studies, and light-and-shadow exercises — building a body of work along the way.
