My Experience Teaching English to Young Learners (Class 1–5) I've learned that teaching English to 6 to 10-year-olds isn't really about lesson plans — it's about connection. With Class 1 and 2, I keep things simple: rhymes, picture cards, little games where letters and sounds come alive without kids even realizing they're "learning." By the time they hit Class 3 to 5, we move into reading, grammar, and writing — but I still try to keep it real. Instead of teaching tenses as a rule to memorize, I'll ask, "What did you eat for breakfast?" and build from there. Honestly, my whole approach comes down to a few things I truly believe. Kids need to know it's okay to get things wrong — that's how they learn to speak up in the first place. Every child is different, so if something isn't clicking, I try a different way instead of just repeating myself louder. And confidence always comes first; once a child feels safe using English, the grammar sorts itself out over time. Most days start with something fun — a rhyme, a silly question, a quick game — just to get them smiling before we dive in. We work through the new idea together, then I let them try it on their own, and we wrap up with something light to make it stick. Nothing makes me happier than watching a shy, quiet reader turn into a kid who wants to tell you a whole story in English.
