While its perhaps a bit more basic than some of the others posted here, Charles C. Pinter's "A Book of Abstract Algebra" is really a great book for both a first course in abstract algebra and a first course in proofs. The book is divided into 32 chapters, each roughly 1 lecture in length, and each chapter has a HUGE number of good exercises--i'm talking like 30+ exercises per chapter. There's also a cheap ($10-12) paperback version of this book now. I think when I bought the book it set me back $85, and it was even worth it at that price. This was the text for my first proof-based mathematics course, and really confirmed that I wanted to be a mathematician. read less
