About the Masterclass
About this Class
Welcome to this interactive, two-hour master class where we turn everyday screen time into creative learning time! In this hands-on session, we will dive into the exciting world of coding using a highly engaging, visual block-based programming language. This class serves as a comprehensive demonstration of how complex computational concepts can be broken down into a carefully structured, step-by-step curriculum that builds a strong foundation in logic, problem-solving, and core programming mechanics.
Who is this class for?
This master class is perfectly suited for children and young learners (ideally ages 8 to 14) who are absolute beginners with no prior programming experience. It is meant for creative kids who love playing video games, watching animations, and telling stories, and who are now ready to transition from being simple consumers of technology to active creators.
What will the students learn in this class?
Over the course of our two hours together, students will follow a highly organized breakdown of fundamental coding principles. They will learn how to navigate a coding interface, utilize X and Y coordinate systems for movement, and understand core programming concepts like sequences, loops, and conditional statements. By snapping together colorful code blocks, they will design their own characters, customize backgrounds, and bring them to life with motion and sound. By the end of the session, every student will have programmed their very own interactive mini-game.
Is there anything the students need to bring to the class?
-
A reliable computer or laptop (Windows or Mac) with a stable internet connection.
-
The Zoom desktop application installed on the computer. This is required rather than using the web version so that I can provide direct, hands-on guidance and utilise the pen annotation tools to highlight specific coding blocks on their end.
-
A modern web browser (like Chrome or Firefox) to access our free, web-based coding platform (Scratch). No software installation is required for the coding platform itself!
-
A quiet learning environment to help them focus on building their coding logic.
-
Plenty of enthusiasm and imagination!
