The first n natural numbers, 1 to n, have to be arranged in a row from left to right. The n numbers are arranged such that there are an odd number of numbers between any two even numbers as well as between any two odd numbers. If the number of ways in which this can be done is 72, then find the value of n?

Correction:-
It is (n-1)/2 ! * (N+1)/2 !
So if n is 7 then answer is 144
If n is 5 then answer is 12.

It needs to be visualized first that there can be only 1 odd number between any two even numbers and vice versa
because if you place 3 odd numbers between 2 even numbers then some pair of even numbers will not have any odd numbers between them
lets assume a set of numbers
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
2, 1 ,3 ,5 ,4 ,6 not satisfying the condition

It needs to be visualized first that there can be only 1 odd number between any two even numbers and vice versa
because if you place 3 odd numbers between 2 even numbers then some pair of even numbers will not have any odd numbers between them
lets assume a set of numbers
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
2, 1 ,3 ,5 ,4 ,6 not satisfying the condition
thus we have only 2 of types possibility that satisfies the given condition:
1 2 3 4 5 6
2 1 4 3 6 5
the two types of possibility happened because the number of odd and number of even numbers are same
but for a set of odd numbers there will be only one type of possibility i.e. starting with odd numbers.
e.g.:-
2 3 4 5 1 not satisfying the condition
1 2 3 4 5
Now coming to the question.
Lets suppose,
n is even and thus n = 2t+2 (where t is an integar with t>0)
thus t+1 even numbers and t+1 odd numbers
2*(t+1)! (t+1)! = 72
(t+1)! = 6
t = 2
n = 6.
Lets suppose
n is odd and thus n = 2t+1 (where t is an integar with t>0)
thus t even numbers and t+1 odd numbers
(2t+1)! (t)! = 72
for t=1 rhs =6
for t=2 rhs =240
thus the above equation will not be satisfied for any value of t.
Hence, n = 6 «less

The winning relay team in a high school sports competition clocked 4-8 minutes for a distance of 13.2 km. Its runners A, B, C and D maintained speeds of 15 kmph, 16 kmph, 17 kmph and 18 kmph respectively. What is the ratio of the time taken by B to that taken by D?

0 0

Sourav replied | 5 days ago

c) Since it is a relay race, all the runners ran the same distance. Hence for a same distance, (ratio of times) = 1/(ratio of speeds). Hence ratio of times taken by B t& D = 18 : 16 = 9 : 8.

Career Launcher/IMS are by far the best in terms of course material and mock tests, their scores are close to the real CAT. For actual classes however I would recommend taking a demo at a few institutes and then deciding as the classroom quality varies greatly, it is not dependent on the institute but on the experienced faculty being available at a particular location so due to that class quality is different even for the same institute at different locations. This is why recommend going for Online Classes as location is not a barrier between quality faculty and students who need that help. For any further doubts feel free to contact me. «less

Mohamed, You can choose Entrepreneurial Management programs of various colleges. The catch is, getting admission in top B-schools for Entrepreneurial Management is comparatively little easy than the regular program. Even few IIMs have also started their Entrepreneurial Wings. I would suggest to go for only top 15 colleges, rest all are same.

The entrance exam for an MBA program is usually top check the aptitude of the candidate. Ideally, people spend atleast a year to take the prestigious CAT exam. Of you are aspiring for NMAT, SNAP, IBSAT & CET, the intensity of preparation can be a little less.

Crash course would be helpful to analyse the exam pattern as well key tips and insights to crack the test.
