"When I started the singing class, I was very anxious about everything: my voice, my complete non-background when it came to music, and whether I have it in me to become even a half decent singer. Onkar was highly patient and broke things down well in order to make me understand the nuances of singing. The class comprised of half hour practice of classic + another half hour of songs (the best from the retro era). Thanks to Onkar's guidance, the classical journey was also not that difficult though I am sure I would have progressed even more with more practice outside class. But the way you kept forcing me to sing really made me uncomfortable. I got another demo and he taught the basics really well, without forcing me to do something I didn't wanted to. "

Firstly I would like to inform you one thing that I asked you only to sing 3-4 lines of any Hindi song. You took a good 4-5 minutes time to think and then you say that you won't be able to. There was a reason for which I told you to sing it. I wasn't going to judge you there from your hindi singing. You wanted to learn Western singing. Western singing is a style of singing which comprises not only of English but other languages too including hindi. You being a hindi speaking person is the reason I told you to sing Hindi song because I wanted to check out your pronunciation of hindi and nothing else. Instead of understanding this you said you won't be able to sing again and again and then you disconnected the class. Is singing 3 lines of a Hindi song such a difficult task that you get uncomfortable ? If you weren't a hindi speaking person I wouldn't have told you to sing Hindi song. Sorry to say but if this is your attitude and you want to stay in your comfort zone then you won't ever be able to learn anything. I have taken more than 500 demos till date and I tell everyone to do this but you are the first one to complain about it. This fact speaks for itself. Anyways. Best of luck for your singing.

Absolutely! There's no particular age to start to learn things. Every age has its advantages & disadvantages. You have to adjust yourselves around these things, which is notably not something complicated. Systematic Riyaaz & consistency are the primary keys to this. Do the riyaaz religiously & regularly and see the magic it does to your art as well as your life. I hope this answers your question—best of luck & Happy learning.

No, it's not essential. But if you do learn to play an instrument, then it has a huge added benefit. If you learn a melody instrument like piano, keyboard, guitar, etc., it will help you understand many aspects of a song like a chord progression, scales, and many such things. If you learn a rhythm instrument, it will benefit you to understand challenging and detailed aspects of rhythm like layakari, and it will also improve your rhythm sense a lot. It can help you much more than you could imagine.

First of all, I would recommend you to observe the process of recording for once by visiting a studio & trying to record any one of your best set songs on a karaoke track or with a keyboardist or guitarist. Once the recording is done, then please review how your voice sounds. Refer that recording to someone in the field of Playback singing or a Music Producer or a Recordist. Take the points where you need to improve and work accordingly as told by the person who knows about playback singing.
Many things, such as voice modulations, voice dynamics, proximity effect, etc., are to be taken care of here. Refer to the recording tips given by some of the most prominent playback singers & Music Producers, which you can find on YouTube & other such social media platforms.
This field of playback singing is much like the trial & error system that works in live singing. You learn and improve with time. But the most important thing is to keep learning throughout life.
