If people are likely to use your expertize, they have to know who you are. You don't have to be the loudest or most gregarious, be yourself and take it person by person.

Tuning into current trends is really important and helps keep you in touch with what's going on, and helps encourage innovation. There are networks and hubs online and in print that is worth keeping on top of. Specialist groups.

3. What skills do you need to achieve success in the industry?

You need to be hardworking, determined, organized, resourceful and ambitious. There are certain attributes that an event manager needs to have, amongst them are to be: a people person, organised, creative, posses budget management skills, a problem solver, flexible, show attention to detail, be able to multi-task, show ability to think outside the box and someone with good energy levels. Languages are another skill that could help you go global in events. And good old IT skills can help you go from being a good events manager to a great one.

The best things about a job in events are meeting new people, building relationships and hopefully having the chance to work on some big-name, exciting events. You may also have the opportunity to travel abroad and experience new cultures and lifestyles. It can also be immensely satisfying pulling off a great event on a tight or limited budget.
