The ratio between the ages of p and q = 5:7
So, let the present ages of p be “5x” years and q be “7x” years.
It is given that the difference between the present age of q and p’s age after 6 years is 2, so we can write the eq. as,
7x – [5x+6] = 2
⇒ 7x – 5x – 6 = 2
⇒ 2x – 6 = 2
⇒ 2x = 8
⇒ x = 8/2
⇒ x = 4
Therefore,
The total of p’s and q’s presents ages is given by,
= 5x + 7x
= [5*4] + [7*4]
= 20 + 28
= 48 years
Thus, the total of p’s and q’s present age is 48 years.
