Overview

As a 2015 English graduate of the University of Delhi, I have learnt a lot about English literature worldwide. I have also done my masters in English literature only due to my keen interest in the field. After gaining enough knowledge in literature I thought of teaching English in an institute where I worked as an English tutor for four years which made me realize that I love learning new things and also know my ways to teach new things to others. While moving towards in the direction of becoming a teacher I joined another course, B.Ed where I learnt nuances of becoming a teacher. During which I have gained practical knowledge in addition to activities outside of the usual classroom, I offer you a blend of talents and experiences. My primary classroom teaching experience was as an unpaid elementary school teacher at Army public school, where I worked for four months.

My first teaching experience at East Point School taught me a lot about what it means to be a teacher and a lot about myself, as a future educator. For example, I always knew that coming up with lesson plans was not easy, so Iâ??m glad that I was able to have this experience to prepare me for it in the future. I also learned that I do not have a good sense of time when I am teaching, so I now know to make sure to make a schedule of what will be done at what time.

As a freshman in the School of Education, I am so excited to get plugged into real classrooms soon and get even more training and insight on what it really is like to be a teacher. Though elementary education is not what I am majoring in, this teaching experience gave me a view of what it is that I could potentially be doing a few years from now, and I am more than excited to explore this amazing field that is education.

Of course, I was incredibly nervous about teaching. First of all, I wasn’t even sure if I was cut out to be a teacher, and second of all, the thought of watching and teaching a bunch of rowdy seventeen-year-olds was overwhelming, to say the least. Nonetheless, my first day in the classroom went better than I expected. My job as their teacher was to teach them a poem by Stephen spender, poetic devices, rhyming scheme and new vocabulary. Though the learning content was not difficult, coming up with five weeks worth of lesson plans was something that I had never done before. At first, it was incredibly difficult for me to figure out what I should do for every day, but with time, the process got a little bit easier, and I started getting more creative with the lessons. My first teaching experience taught me a lot about what it means to be a teacher and a lot about myself, as a future educator. You have to understand what interests him/her. If your child like colourful toys, barbie dolls, or any specific kind of toy, try to make him/her sit with that first. Try to replace those toys with learning toys gradually. You can also start rewarding your child with every accepted behaviour. You must smile and say words like "Good" you can even clap for encouraging your child.
