Doing M.Tech from IIT is as good as doing B.Tech interms of knowledge and research exposure you get from IIT .But only difference is B.Tech students get good pacakge as they go for non core jobs.I mean to say though he is B.Tech Mechanical engineering student he will choose to get placed in a financial company just for package. But what my understanding is if some one is doing his M.tech means he is interested in technical domain and want to continue in core reaserch domain .so if some one wants to continue in core research domain then M.tech from IIT is more valuable than B.Tech from IIT.I myself did my M.tech from IIT kharagpur in 2010.from my own experiences I am telling the same .But if your objective is only package and salary and ready to work in financial sectors in which a commerce guy suits well then M.tech from IIT is not good .But if you want to progress as a Engineer then M.tech IIT is always better
