Further depending upon the type of charge ions are classified into two types
1) CATION
2) ANION
A cation is a positively charged ion while an anion is a negatively charged ion/species.
Example: CATION (Na+) that is sodium ion formed by loss of one electron; ANION (Cl-) that is chlorine ion formed by the gain of one electron.
