If you are starting, I would recommend you give Blender a try. It's free, and with the latest updates, it is soon catching up to all the other Softwares used primarily in Studios. It has a 2D animation and an editing feature as well, so it's a complete package in that regard. If you are looking for specialized softwares, you can go with anyone like 3ds max, Maya, Cinema 4D as all of these are being used in the industry. The main focus should be on the skills and techniques rather than the softwares. The studio provides software training (if a particular software is being used in a company you don't use). A good company or studio needs to see your work regardless of the software. For VFX, After Effects and Nuke are the best. I hope it helps.
