A regular pentagon consists of 5 congruent isosceles triangle with base equal to a, the side of the pentagon and the vertical angle equal to 72 degree (at the centre of the regular pentagon). The height of each triangle is a/2 cos 36(degree). Hence area of each triangle is 1/2 base X height =a^2/4 cot 36 (degree) sq. units. Thus, the area of the polygon is 5a^2/4 X cot 36 (degree) sq. units. read less
