Dance is a beautiful art form comprising of rhythm, movement, energy and engagement of space. It is used as a form of expression, communication, social interaction and is presented in a spiritual or performance setting.
Sreejaya is a highly talented Dancer with extensive experience and remarkable background in a variety of classical dance forms: Bharatnatyam, Mohiniattam and Kuchipudi. She founded SSCD - Sreejaya’s School of Classical Dance in October 2004. The school has been running successfully for the past 11 years and has grown to become a major classical dance institute in Bangalore, India. Students come from diverse backgrounds to learn the Indian classical dance form - Bharatnatyam in its traditional form. The foundation stone of SSCD - Sreejaya’s School of Classical Dance, the Artistic Director, Sreejaya is the main reason why the school has grown into such proportions.
The main objective of this school is to develop and nurture the authentic traditions of classical Bharatnatyam and produce performers, teachers and choreographers who will preserve and spread the art form in its purest form. The students are trained in a wide-range of programs like the Adavus - Steps, Hastas – Hand Gestures, Abhinaya – Expressions, dance items – Ranga Pooja, Alarippu, Pushpanjali, Jathiswaram, Ganesha Stuthi, Shabdam, Padam, Keerthanam, Devarnamam, Varnam, Javali and Thillana.
Currently the school has many students over various age groups in different levels of training and spread across in Bangalore at Koramangala, Harlur(HSR Layout), BTM Layout and Whitefield. The school regularly presents “Nrithya Sandhya” (evening of dance), a stage performance by its students.
