Dharani attended Spoken English

"Miss Helen is a fine teacher with a great work ethic in terms of keeping her students constantly engaged and making learning fun. This is the kind of English teacher I would've loved to have at school - serious yet informal, funny yet effective and above all has given me the confidence to speak English fluently and also begin thinking in English. Helen ma'am has also made me take a serious interest in reading, and is very helpful when it comes to helping me comprehend better. I now feel like I have given my personality a significant edge and the confidence to travel to any English speaking country in the world for work or pleasure. Would highly recommend her. "

"I have been having tutoring lessons with Helen and she has really helped me to improve my spoken English. I would recommend her to everyone. She is very friendly and makes every lesson fun. She has really helped to build up my confidence and feel more comfortable when speaking English. Helen is always patient when I don't remember things straight away and always goes back over everything to make sure I understand it all. "

I reccomend listening to podcasts or radio talk shows from the UK so that you really have a chance to pick up the accent. You can listen to these on the bus or at night, if it helps you, listen to these on 0.5 speed so you can catch everything!

Also another great way is to - speak with a native speaker! Either through tutoring or finding someone you can communicate casually with on a regular basis.

I hope you make some improvements.

Good luck!

Hey Amit! There are so many ways you can improve your spoken English and overcome stage fright. Most importantly I would urge you to practise, in a way that you feel most comfortable - in front of friends, family and colleagues. This will help you gain confidence in public speaking without the big crowd. Also remember that you always communicate best and have the most to say when you are taking about something you are really passionate about. Why not read the same book or watch the same film as a friend and then discuss it together? That way you can correct each others mistakes in a relaxed environment. Finally, write down what it is that you want to say in bullet points - not the whole speech. That way, when you read it out you'll have prompt to guide you rather than reading the whole thing from your paper. Don't forget that everyone is nervous to publicly address people, it's never easy - just be proud of what you've achieved so far and remember you are doing your best to improve. Keep going and good luck!
