Take an example like day and night. These situations repeat again and again, but we are not sure about the exact time of their occurrence. These type of repeating property is called as periodicity. Like wise properties of elements also repeat in a tentative manner. For example, after H the element with the same property is almost Li. Electronic configuration of H is 1s^1, for Li it is 1s^2 2s^1. Both has valence electron in s orbital. So valence electronic configuration is repeating. So valence electronic configuration may be considered as repeating property or periodic property.
