Always start simple to complex, Start with loosening exercise. After each asana do relaxation for 1 to 2 minute. Increase Asana time gradually. Female should not allowed during period timing. Do proper dressing before start yoga, please use dupatta or string to bind your dress from waist. Make sure stomach should empty or do yoga after 4 hours of food consumption.

Early morning is the best time to practice yoga. But due to speedy life you can do it in other time. But take atleast 3 hours gap after meal and never practice yoga after dinner. Only few assans can do after dinner - Vajra assana, Gomukha assana

No need to be religious, but yes you have to follow as per your Guru's instruction and you have to chant sloka or sutra where necessary as they are leaving positive impact on your health. You should not modified that chant as these are search by Great Yogi's . This has been now proven by NASA as well (I.e Aum chanting)

rishi - one who can be in samadhi or union with god all the time...but yet, has limitations in terms of impacting the nature / 5 elements
