Class 6 to 12 CBSE /ICSE

We have to maintain that kind of environment for our child. If parents do know the English, take the help of youtube and cooperate with your child.

When you were a baby, how did you learn to speak your mother tongue? Any language is learnt quickly without the pressure of learning it. Adopt and create the same environment how your child learnt the mother tongue. It works well, besides reading books.

To put it easily,

  1. Replace or reduce native TV time with English material
  2. Set aside 20 mins or a shorter burst of time, and during that time, everyone in the family speaks the target language only (English). That way, the child will feel happy she is not alone, and everyone is with her.

These are some tips I use for my child students, and they always work.

If you want to learn something, it is not required for the environment. Just speak with son in English only and don't run for English grammar. Or join me.

You can give him some English storybooks, and ask him to read them. With more and more practice, slowly and gradually, he will start speaking in English.

Hello,
Fluency in English can be a result of both reading books and trying to converse in English. While reading can improve vocabulary and improve spelling errors, day to day talking will boost confidence. Learning grammar can immensely help to correct common errors of tense, verbs. Reading both novels and essay books will improve the span of knowledge and make the language familiar. I also suggest answering comprehensions as the main idea of comprehension is whether we have understood the passage, the various contexts and understood synonyms.

Here are a few ideas to help your son have a better grasp of the English language!

  1. Begin with reading an English newspaper every day. It's not only a powerhouse of information and upgrades your general awareness but also covers a wide range of subjects.
  2. Vocabulary apps- It's a healthy practice to learn a new word every day and then practice the usage of that word. Many free apps are available for download.
  3. Watch movies and documentaries in English (can use subtitles)- on youtube, Netflix, Amazon or any other platform of your choice. It helps in language comprehension.
  4. Practice speaking in English all the time. The more he practices, the better he will become. Also, focus on the accent and correct pronunciation of words.
  5. Peer support- Find a good friend to converse with on different topics.

I hope this helps.

  1. READ- Help your child find fun English books and light novels like Famous Five/Goosebumps/Secret Seven.
  2. LISTEN- If your child likes fairytales, read them one story at a time in the night before they go to bed.
  3. SPEAK- Try to speak in English at home. Or, if it is not possible to do that all the time, set a time, for like 1 hour every day, when everyone at home only speaks in English. In the beginning, give them plenty of opportunities to make mistakes, but correct them a few times so that they are not afraid of speaking in English at home. Eventually, you can start fixing them once they increase in confidence.

Remember, every child's education starts at home. You don't need to find an environment outside, but create an environment at home to make them more comfortable using English.
