Various applications of python are there , so you need to be specific - is it for data scince or full stack web development or python integration  with hadoop (big data)  or just data visualization for research /analytics purpose. 

For anything you need to learn introduction to programming course  using python.Then take Object oriented concepts , data structures and algorithms classes.

Pick a python library ,

1. data analytics/scienctist role- you will be working on matplotlib ,numpy , scipy ,pandas

2. machine learning application math or scince for academic research -tensorflow or Pytorch or scikit learn

3. gamedesign  -Pygame

4.webcrawling /data mining - beautiful soup or scrapy

Firstly clear your concepts with do small programs then make minor projects and implement different concepts on it.... then you can move on major projects. In last practice is only way to learn programming efficiently
