simple way to explane the servlet in java

In very simple words i would say Servlet used to put the java logic at the server side so in other words you can also say it as server side programming. For every server(Web/Application), there is a web container which executes Servlet's code and maintain the Servlet's life cycle. It accepts the request data from the client(mostly browsers) side and provided the response to that client.
