Being a bright student myself, many of my neighbours requested that I teach their children. So after my 12th I started taking tutions. In college, I was a student and at home, a teacher. I liked this dual role that I played which helped me in understanding the student as well as teacher side. I continued teaching throughout my graduation and post graduation after which I started teaching in Khalsa college, dept of Microbiology. I have an overall 20 yrs experience of teaching. The best thing I love about teaching is that I get a lot of satisfaction on knowing that the students have understood the topic and are enjoying it. I teach from the text book but give real life examples where possible. I also use audiovisual aids wherever required. I ask questions to see if the students have understood. I also encourage them to ask questions and get their doubts cleared. I like many topics of Algebra especially Algebraic expressions, Statistics, sums involving application of formulae and some tricks. In geometry I love teaching trigonometry which most students fear. In Science I make students understand the concept rather than mugging. As a teacher I am also continuously learning and relearning with the students. I find the age group of 13-15 that is 9th and 10th Std students are ready to receive knowledge and more innovative. Overall I have been teaching for 20 yes now, 5 yrs while studying and 15 yrs after my post graduation. The best thing that I love about teaching is the sense of fulfillment that it gives you. Also being surrounded by young minds gives you a different kind of energy. I first give students an idea about the topic that I am going to teach before actually teaching it. I also ask questions at the end of the session and at the beginning of the next lecture. This gives me an idea of how much the students have understood. I started teaching B.Sc as a lecturer in Khalsa college, dept of Microbiology. Initially I taught F.Y.B.Sc, then later S.Y and T.Y as well. I have been teaching B.Sc students for 11 yrs. I teach using various text books choosing different ones as each book. I use various visual aids to help students in understanding the topic. I search for relevant videos on topics difficult to understand. I ask questions to check whether students have really understood. I have good teaching skills as well as people skills. I am able to understand student psychology well. I love teaching topics which the students can relate to. eg: Immunology, medical microbiology, Genetics etc. I like teaching Mathematics and Statistics. Trigonometry is my favourite a topic which most students fear. I love teaching because it gives me a sense of satisfaction especially when I see that the students have understood. I find that the age group of 15-17 are naughty but innocent. Whereas the students in the age group 17-20 are more quiet and responsible. Every time I teach something, I am also learning it or relearning. It gives me immense pleasure.
