1. PRIMARY CAMERA FUNCTIONS

This session deals with understanding your camera and how to change certain important settings:

• Understanding your camera’s specifications and capabilities
• Understanding your camera’s functions
• Understanding your camera’s menus
• Understanding how to change the shutter-speed, aperture, ISO sensitivity, white balance and colouring etc. on your camera

2. BASICS OF EXPOSURE AND COMPOSITION

This class is about understanding how to achieve well composed and balanced photographs that are sharp and not grainy, excessively bright or excessively dark; irrespective of the intensity of available light:

• Understanding shutter-speed, aperture and ISO sensitivity in detail
• Using shutter-speed, aperture and ISO sensitivity depending on the subject and lighting conditions to make a photograph as you envision it
• Achieving blurry and sharp backgrounds
• Understanding white balance in detail
• Understanding how to compose a photograph based on the subject and the effect that you want to have on the viewer

3. MAKING PHOTOGRAPHS IN AMBIENT DAYLIGHT

• Learn how to make photographs in daylight using the knowledge of the first two classes

4. MAKING PHOTOGRAPHS IN LOW LIGHT

• Learn how to make indoor & outdoor photographs in low light using the knowledge of the first three classes

5. PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY IN NATURAL LIGHT

• Understanding what makes a great portrait
• Exposing for portraits based on the knowledge of the first four classes
• Composing portraits indoors and outdoors
• Using reflectors

6. PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY USING SPEEDLIGHTS

• Learn how to make portraits using a system of wireless speedlights (flash)
• This workshop deals with the equipment and method behind making professional looking individual and family portraits using a system of wireless speedlights in limited space and minimum budget
• The basics of portrait photography taught during Class 5 play an important role when making photographs using speedlights

7. MACRO AND CLOSE-UP PHOTOGRAPHY

Learn everything that you need to know about Macro photography once and for all:

• Understand the difference between macro, micro and close-up photography
• Understand magnification
• Understand photo gear such as lenses, tripods, tripod heads, and macro focusing rails, dedicated macro speedlights, extension tubes, close-up filters, right angle viewfinders and more
• Understand depth of field and the use of a dedicated macro flash and parameters such as sync speed, power and ratio
• Composing close-ups
• Customised solutions for your macro interests

8. PHOTOGRAPHING PRODUCTS

• Learn how to photograph products professionally using the knowledge of lighting using speedlights and macro & close-up photography


Who should attend

This workshop has been designed for children between the ages of 10 and 18.

Pre-requisites

This is a basic course; a foundation for professional photography. No prior knowledge of photography is required to enroll for this summer camp.

• This summer camp spans one month
• Classes will be held twice a week (total 8 classes)
• Each class will span 90 minutes
• Classes will be held at the student’s home/suggested place
• Dates and time are flexible depending on the student

What you need to bring

• DSLR cameras are preferred but not compulsory – certain topics such as photographing portraits using speedlights and product photography need DSLR cameras and additional equipment… these will be provided to the student

• If you’re in the process of buying a camera and other photography related equipment, I will be happy to advise you about the different options available in the market before you purchase them
