A fruit seller had some apples. He sells 40% apples and still has 420 apples. Originally, how many apples he had?

Ramarao replied | 22 Jan

Hi Divya,
As 40% of the apples are over, it means 60% of them are remaining.
So,
60 -------> 420
40 -------> X
now do the cross multiplication, so
60*X = 40*420 (here star* is multiplication)
from the above equation:
X = (40*420) / 60
= 280 (so these are the 40% apples )
so total no. of apples = 40% + 60%
...  more»

hope you you got it.

A train running at the speed of 50 km/hr crosses a pole in 7 seconds. What is the length of the train?

Deepika replied | 05/12/2016

Distance = speed x time, here distance is just the length of train. Converting 50 km/h to m/s = 50 x 5/18 = 13.8889 m/s. Length of train = 13.8889 x 7 = 97.22 meters.
