Well as someone as already mentioned, you must read as it would prepare you overall for the test and would also broaden your exposure to good language. Assuming that you are not a voracious reader.

Pooja replied | 22/09/2016

Hi Mahesh, the best way to prepare for IELTS is to start with practice for reading and listening, which is quite easy if you could dedicate quality time. However you would really need assistance in writing and speaking as continuous feedback is necessary in these two sections. If you live in Coimbatore you can contact me.

The amount of time you are willing to spend and finally the most important is the trainer matters most. To share with you I had a candidate( Mr Ranjith) who made 12 unsuccessful attempts before coming to me and I helped in just 20 days to get the scores which he could never believe was possible. «less

How is IELTS scored?
IELTS provides a profile of your ability to use English. In other words your IELTS
result will consist of a score in each of the four skills (listening, reading, writing,
speaking) which is then averaged to give the Overall Band Score or final mark.
Performance is rated in each skill on a scale of 9 to 1. The nine overall Bands and
their descriptive statements are as follows:
9 Expert user
Has fully operational command of the language: appropriate, accurate and fluent
with complete understanding.
8 Very good user
Has fully operational command of the language with only occasional
unsystematic inaccuracies and inappropriacies. Misunderstandings may occur in
unfamiliar situations. Handles complex detailed argumentation well.
7 Good user
Has operational command of the language, though with occasional inaccuracies,
inappropriacies and misunderstandings in some situations. Generally
handles complex language well and understands detailed reasoning.
6 Competent user
Has generally effective command of the language despite inaccuracies,
inappropriacies and misunderstandings. Can use and understand fairly complex
language, particularly in familiar situations.
5 Modest user
Has partial command of the language, coping with overall meaning in most
situations, though is likely to make many mistakes. Should be able to handle
basic communication in own field.
4 Limited user
Basic competence is limited to familiar situations. Has frequent problems in
understanding and expression. Is not able to use complex language.
3 Extremely limited user
Conveys and understands only general meaning in very familiar situations.
Frequent breakdowns in communication occur.
2 Intermittent user
No real communication is possible except for the most basic information using
isolated words or short formulae in familiar situations and to meet immediate
needs. Has great difficulty understanding spoken and written English.
1 Non user
Essentially has no ability to use the language beyond possibly a few isolated
words.
0 Did not attempt the test
No assessable information provided. «less

Usually most of the US Universities keep a minimum IELTS Score of 6.5. But there are few schools that go below 6.5 for cut off. These schools (approx.10-11 schools) will give admissions for students with low IELTS bands of 6.0 and 5.5.

Yes by default it has to be different. Your Speaking test can take place upto 7 days before or after your Listening Reading Writing test

Avigna Learning Academy replied | 06/08/2016

Yes . The IELTS speaking test will be conducted on other day. Generally, it would be a day or 2 days before the exam or else after the exam. The remaining modules i.e. Listening, Reading and Writing would be conducted consecutively i.e. without any gap.
