I am Swati Mahalaxmi. I am a postgraduate in Ancient Indian History & Culture and also passionately pursue my love for Indian classical dance and music. I learnt Bharatnatyam from Kalakshetra, Kuchipudi from Guru Vempatti Chinna Satyam, Odissi from Guru Kelucharan Mahaptra and Guru Mayadhar Raut. I learnt Hindustani vocal music from my mother and Guru Smrti Marthand, and Carnatic music from Guru C. Sunderamma. I also learnt Sitar (visharad level) from Pundit Devi Ram. I have performed extensively in India and the USA and have been training students since 1973.
Prachya Bharati was founded in 1972 with an aim to promote studying, training and presenting Indian Heritage and Culture through study of Classical Dance and Music apart from study of Sanskrit Language and Literature. Prachya Bharati endeavors to practice and teach Vedic values through study of Indian thought and philosophy, cultural practices, language, literature and the performing arts. Prachya Bharati has a US chapter, situated in Gainesville, Florida.
'Dance & Music are expressions of devotional worship. Through total surrender towards a sustained and disciplined practice, one aspires and attains "liberation", which is the ultimate destination of this ecstatic journey'! With this approach I teach the student in Prachya Bharati. Thank you!
