Hi Ayush,
To prepare for GMAT, first set a target score. To get into a top University, you need to score more than 690 or 700. If you are a working professional, put an effort of at least 2 hrs per day during weekdays and 5 hrs per day during weekends. Practising is key. But preparation is everything.
Start with the basics and make sure you are perfect. Once you gain some confidence, solve official GMAT book and then try giving some mocks. Once you complete the mock tests, try to solve the paper again, this time by reviewing each solution. Make sure you check the solutions for the questions that you have answered correctly.
You might sometimes find a better approach, as well!
