GMAT is an online MBA Entrance Examination of 3 hours 30 minutes (which goes up to 4 hours if candidate takes optional breaks in between). The pattern of the test is both subjective as well as objective. GMAT is a Computer Adaptive Test, thus the difficulty level of subsequent question greatly depends on the accuracy of your previous answer.

Below is the Pattern for the GMAT:

  1. AWA (Analysis of Argument): This section consists of one topic. The candidate is given 30 minutes to answer it.
  2. IR (Integrated Reasoning):This section consists of 12 Questions to be answered in 30 minutes.
  3. Quantitative:This section consists of 37 Multiple Choice Questions to be answered in 75 minutes.
  4. Verbal:This section consists of 41 Multiple Choice Questions to be answered in 75 minutes.

The GMAT Scoring Process:

  • The score range for GMAT is from 200 to 800. Majority of test takers score between 400-600.
  • GMAT scores are presented in increments of 10 (such as 600, 610, 620, 630, etc).540 is the average score observed by GMAC.
  • Try to answer all the Questions presented on the GMAT; otherwise your GMAT score will decrease drastically. If you are not able to complete your test in given time, your scores will be based upon the number of questions you have answered in all the sections.

GMAT Results:

The best part about GMAT is that the candidates can see their results right after taking the test. This is the unofficial GMAT score that will include your marks scored in Verbal and Quant Sections. Candidates can check their Official Score Reports online within 20 days of taking your Test. These Score Reports are sent to B-schools, based on your program preference. The official GMAT Result consists of all the GMAT exams you have taken in the last 5 years.

However, in case you cancel your scores after taking the Test, those scores will not be sent to the B-schools. If you have accepted your scores, these will be sent to 5 B-schools of your choice (which you need to select during your GMAT Registration). In case, you wish to send your GMAT scores to more than 5 B-Schools, you can make a request and pay the required fee at

Your next step of MBA admissions will be based on your GMAT Scores and Choice of your MBA Program/B-Schools!
