One needs to understand the "Swaras" the musical notes & get a hold upon the positions on the flute in accordance to "Shruthi"... Which is designed in the classical music training format as Saralevarse, Jantivarase,.. Alankara, the student will be learning different tunes is from Geetegalu as designed in Carnatic Classical music...
The more you practice the more fast is the journey...

From a raw beginners, it would take an average of 1 year. For quick learners, simple tunes can be learnt by 4 to 6 months. For some others it may take much more than 1 year.

Which is the best flute for beginners?

If the student is a kid age between 6 to 12 then you can start with G scale,if the student is an adult then D# scale is good

Bilvaa replied | 27 May

Mostly for Carnatic style, 7 or 8 is the age in which they can play on a G scale flute. I have found that for some kids, the holes are too big on a G scale flute, so I don' t start classes till they are about 7 or 8. In some rare cases we have used A sharp for beginners. We start them if they are beginners on G scale whatever be their age. It is easier to play on a G flute for beginners. If someone is used to blowing the flute and dabbling on it, say playing some simple tunes, etc, and if they are older, like more than 18ish, then if it is comfortable to play both on blowing and in the fingering part, then we can use D # or E. «less

Can I compose songs using flute?

0 0

Krishna Mohan replied | 24 Apr

Yes. You can. But you need to be trained in music for at least 4-6 years (also depends on the aptitude in improvising the tune) as it gives you good knowledge of notating the swaras. That helps you to compose songs over the flute.

Is there any similarity between flute and saxophone?

It is not easy to play Indian music with its 'curves' or 'gamakas' or 'slides' on the sax. But there are some great artistes like Kadri Goplanathji and Narasimhulu Wadivatti (who actually plays the carionet, similar to the sax in some ways, using the keys mostly) who manage to play Indian music on these instruments to amazing levels. «less
