I more focus on the basic part of a student since I had gone through many students I came up with a point that as student reaches the higher classes his concentration starts declining towards studies and there only he loses the basic part.To cope up with this I start every chapter (specially of maths and science) with basics so that student can understand the new things he had been taught.
