The writer narrates the tale of a little seagull that is afraid of falling and is not trying to fly. The family consisting of the father, the mother and the baby seagulls, who live on a high surface. Each one in his world can fly. The warm but stern parents want their child to let go of his fear of falling and spread out his tiny wings be one with his natural self, i.e. take flight.

The Black Aeroplane

The narrator, in the first person, describes the tale of a pilot’s experience of a harrowing flight over the sea during a dark rainy night. He was flying from Dakota towards Paris to meet with his family and children. He was flying through dangerous stormy weather. He had, in effect, hallucinated an image of a black plane with a guide pilot that helped him through the tumultuous weather over the roaring seas and landed safely. He was grateful for landing safely but not sorry for leaving Dakota.
