Every language has its own pros n cons. Chossing a language to learn among them will depends on you. Java has so many available resources /experienced people when compared to ROR. Is Ruby is a Scripting Language or Compiled Language?

Ruby in particular, might compiled or interpreted depending on what particular implementation we're using - for instance JRuby and Rubinius, two other popular implementations of Ruby, support using a compiler the same way you would with a statically typed language like C or Java. Both JRuby and Rubinius first compile your Ruby code to byte code, and later execute it.

If you are new to programming language and studying for btech then balaguruswamy/yashwant kanetkar(Let us C) will be fine. If you already know C a bit please go with Dennis Ritchie. Remember the best way of learning programming is via practicing. Do much programs, use internet for solutions :). All... ...more
