“Om Nrithya Kshethra” was founded by Guru Smt. Bhagyashree Satthish in 1998 in Chennai. The
main vision of the school is to impart knowledge of Indian culture and personality development through art.
The school has two branches (Besant Nagar & Perungudi).
The school teaches Bharatanatyam, folk dances, Nattuvangam and Suhasini Nrithya Kala (a dance form exclusively for adults and housewives). Smt. Bhagyashree Satthish's teaching method is the creation of an intensive learning environment where the students closely interact and meditate, encourage and discipline each other, discovering their own individual interpretations and performing styles rather than just replicating another dancer's movements and style. Every student gets the guru's personal attention. The training process is based on the student's individual proficiency level. In dance dramas, students are assigned roles that complement and develop their individual capabilities and talents, with the choreography and music modified to suit the student's capacity and style. The unique feature of her teaching is that Bhagyashree teaches from the age of 3.6 years to improve their fine motor skills and for body and mind coordination. Not only for children but adults are being taught classical and folk dances along with Yoga, meditation and pranayama through “Suhasini Nrithya Kala”.
To impart all-round effective learning of the art, the school conducts theory, nattuvangam classes and yoga
courses too.The school has established a core group of talented and dedicated dancers which, as if in a nuclear reaction, has created a critical mass that generates energy, inspiration and motivation for the junior learners, helps them observe and learn from each other, and makes the learning process an exciting journey of inner self discovery rather than just a routine.
In the month of October 2011 the school started classes for senior citizens . Now the ladies have even started to perform with great enthusiasm and excitement.
